Let’s Talk Science congratulates federal government on expanding initiatives for science, technology, engineering and math engagement for Canadian youth
Investments will allow more Canadians to build skills for changing economy
London, Ontario – December 4, 2014 – Let’s Talk Science congratulates the federal government for its announcement today of new and expanded initiatives to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) engagement and looks forward to contributing to the effort as part of the new science, technology and innovation strategy.
“We are very pleased to see the federal government launching this expanded initiative to promote STEM engagement, and are excited about working with them to help achieve those goals, which are critical for Canada’s future,” said Bonnie Schmidt, President and Founder of Let’s Talk Science. “Early exposure and involvement to science, technology, engineering and math will propel more Canadian youth to pursue education and career choices that will help them succeed in the technology-based economy of the 21st century.”
STEM offers an interesting and creative learning platform that builds critical skills such as problem solving, communication, critical thinking, teamwork and more. Let’s Talk Science addresses key barriers to youth engagement by providing free access to outstanding postsecondary and industry-based volunteers from coast to coast to coast; meaningful, ageappropriate programs and learning resources for youth and educators that address jurisdictional issues; and research that showcases the connection between STEM engagement, jobs and attitudes.
“Today’s five-year-olds will participate in the workforce of the 2030s,” added Dr. Schmidt. “It is our responsibility to ensure that they are prepared to address emerging pressures and opportunities, the majority of which are based on or are influenced by science, technology, engineering and math.”
