Annual Giving: Inspiring Discovery

Let’s Talk Science works to build interest and engagement among children and youth in science, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM). As the need to inspire discovery through STEM literacy increases daily because of its integral role in our culture, society and future, the demand for our programs continues to grow. Barriers to youth engagement still exist, however.

When children and youth meet with real-life scientists, when we dispel the myths and stereotypes that surround STEM, when we spark the ‘aha’ moment in young minds, we know that our programs are working.

Your gift to our Inspiring Discovery Annual Fund goes a long way to ensuring that we can continue to bring STEM into the impressionable lives of children and youth across Canada, and foster their learning and engagement through leadership, innovative educational programs, research and advocacy.

For more information about making an annual gift, including setting up a pledge and payment option based on your preferences, contact Rosie Triebner by e-mail or phone at 1.877.474.4081 × 234.

A matching gift is a corporate donation that either equals or exceeds your contribution to Let’s Talk Science. Speak with your human resources department to ask if they match gifts; if so, your company may provide you with the necessary form to complete and send to us.

Securities

A gift of securities (such as privately or publicly held shares, bonds, mutual funds and stock options) to Let’s Talk Science offers considerable tax benefits.

The 2006 Federal Budget introduced a special tax incentive on gifts of Publicly Traded Securities and Mutual Funds. When you sell an appreciated stock, mutual fund or flow through shares, you are required to pay tax on 50% of the capital gain. However, if you donate the securities to charity, you’ll not only get a tax receipt and have the satisfaction of seeing your gift put to good use today, you’ll also pay no capital gains tax.

This can save your estate a considerable amount of tax, especially if you have RSPs or large holdings of appreciated assets.
