All across Canada, our volunteers are making a difference in people’s lives. From encouraging discovery in the kids they teach to inspiring awe among their peers — and even sparking the ideas of other volunteers! Each year, we honour the efforts of our Let’s Talk Science volunteers with three prestigious awards.
National Volunteer Award, Let’s Talk Science Outreach
Each year, our National Volunteer Award recognizes an outstanding Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteer who is passionate about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The recipient is a volunteer committed to enhancing science education through effective communication, innovation in approach and in their activities, and is a positive role model for children and teens.
Recipients of this award receive:
- An engraved trophy
- A cash award of $300
- An expense-paid trip to the National Let’s Talk Science Outreach Banquet
- Their profile on the Let’s Talk Science website (read about past recipients)
All volunteers, educators and coordinators may nominate Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers for the award. Nominating a volunteer not only recognizes their efforts, but also highlights the program and increases awareness in your community.
Do you know an outstanding Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteer? Nominate them! The nomination deadline is usually in early March each year, but we love hearing about our fantastic volunteers year-round. For more details, contact Isabel Deslauriers, Manager, Outreach.
The David Colcleugh Leadership Award
The David Colcleugh Leadership Award recognizes an outstanding Let’s Talk Science Outreach site coordinator who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, meaning (s)he has influenced people to create positive change through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) outreach.
Recipients of this award receive:
- An all-expense paid trip to the Let's Talk Science National Conference Banquet in London, Ontario (travel expenses may be limited to travel within Canada only)

- A copy of the book, Everyone a Leader: A Guide to Leading High-Performance Organizations for Engineers and Scientists, by David Colcleugh
In addition, award recipients will be showcased via Let’s Talk Science national website and national social media channels. At the local level, winners will be featured by the Outreach site’s social media and website communications.
All volunteers, educators and Outreach site coordinators may nominate Outreach site coordinators for the David Colcleugh Leadership Award. Self-nominations are also welcome.
