Let’s Talk Science volunteers from the University of Ottawa, L’Université du Québec à Montréal, Concordia University and McGill University, will be visiting the village of Chûte-à-Blondeau, Ontario, from September 20 to 24, for the 2011 International Plowing Match and Rural Exposition.
This agricultural show is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors, including at least 10,000 young students, and will feature a tented city with displays and demonstrations pertaining to all aspects of agriculture and rural living.
Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers will have a booth set up in the HydroOne-sponsored “education tent” where they will engage youth in health-related and simple machines hands-on science activities.
As part of the simple machines activities, youth will learn the differences between gears, pulleys and levers and will be sent on a scavenger hunt throughout the expo to find examples of each. With tons of farming and agricultural equipment on site, they’ll be sure to find numerous examples of each simple machine!
