Who should attend?

BackyardBio is an project run by Exploring By The Seat of Your Pants encouraging the public, and especially classrooms to get out in nature observing and documenting the amazing diversity of wildlife near them!

There are three ways to take part:

  1. On Twitter, with #backyardbio and tagging @ebtsoyp to compile pictures worldwide.

  2. Via the INaturalist project page. Registration is free, and once you've joined the project any submission made on the app during September will be entered into the global database of images - complete with individual leaderboards, full species counts, and a map. An educator's guide can be found on the iNaturalist website.

  3. Directly on the BackyardBio website. This website has a registration page/link that classrooms can use to join in and commit to taking part in the campaign. Each class will be connected with three other classrooms from far away to share notes, images and engage in friendly competition to see who can observe the most species.
