Girl Guides and Scouts Clothing4Climate Crest
The Clothing4Climate crests are returning in 2022/2023 with a brand-new design and more activity ideas! We are now accepting orders; however, supplies are limited!
Let's Talk Science created the "I Took Action" crest to be awarded to participating groups (in Canada) who complete the three steps of Learning, Taking Action and Sharing for the Clothing4Climate project as outlined in the Crest Requirements below.
The Clothing4Climate project encourages participants to learn about the science behind climate change and the impact our clothing system has on the environment and to take action to make change. These topics can feel very overwhelming. Focusing on the aspect of clothing gives participants an engaging entry point to this global problem and by taking action to make systemic change through meaningful and sustainable clothing choices, the project empowers them to make a difference while focusing on solutions relevant to their own lives.
Anyone interested in using the crest who can confirm they have met the requirements with their group can order through the online order form. There are also French crests available upon request, please visit our French page for more information.
Crest Requirements
To earn the Clothing4Climate crest, we recommend groups learn about the problem, take action, and then share their actions. Unit leaders can choose one or two resources from each section to share with their groups. Please note: this opportunity is available to groups in Canada only.
Learn about the problem. Here are some example resources to choose from:
- New: Dive into the ecosystem impacts of clothing
- New: Learn how clothing impacts water systems
- Watch the "Trouble with Clothes" Video
- Explore the indicators of climate change
Take action. Explore our collection of Action ideas, or come up with your own activity.
There are many ways to take action:
- New: By investigating innovative solutions like washing clothes smarter and designing a simple filter.
- Through creative avenues by upcycling old clothing or revamping old shoes.
- Through experimentation to find solutions like how to remove a stain or building a way to air dry clothes.
- By influencing others through a petition or planning an event such as a clothing swap.
Share what you have done!
Once your group has completed their actions, share a photo to our showcase! The Showcase is public-facing so please read the community guidelines and ensure that if any children are in the photos you have permission to share their image, or only share photos of the project your group worked on instead. Sharing helps create a social ripple effect of change!
French Crests are also available - visit our French order page. The crest is available at no cost, to groups in Canada. The crests are intended for extra-curricular community groups (primarily Girl Guides and Scouts), other educators can contact clothing4climate@letstalkscience.ca to discuss on a case-by-case basis if there is availability for your class as well.
