Indigenous Outreach Project Award, Let’s Talk Science Outreach

2019 Award Winner:
Coastal Labrador Trip – Science of all sizes;
from DNA to blue whales, Let’s Talk Science at Memorial University, St. John’s Campus

The trip consisted of visiting 270 students in Nain, Postville and Makkovik, Labrador. Children were eager to participate and related STEM topics to their lifestyle and knowledge as Inuit. The outreach project had an extremely valuable and positive impact on the students.

Let’s Talk Science and the Ottawa Inuit Children’s Centre, Let’s Talk Science at the University of Ottawa

The journey began in 2017 with the Ottawa Inuit Children’s Centre. Since March 2018, volunteers completed 50 activities reaching over 1000 Inuit children and youth with over 26 different science concepts presented.

Sandy Lake Partnership, Let’s Talk Science at the University of Toronto, St. George

Let’s Talk Science at University of Toronto, St. George has a long standing partnership with the Sandy Lake First Nation community. The volunteers and coordinators worked with the community to identify their needs and focused their time developing activities that were relevant and tailored to the community.
