On Campus Visits

McMaster University is one of the top 100 universities in the world. In addition, McMaster has been ranked the second in Ontario and third in Canada for the most environmentally friendly and sustainable campus by GreenMetric World University Ranking. McMaster University is home to many programs as part of its six faculties, the DeGroote School of Business and the Faculties of Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science and Social Sciences.  

McMaster is home to multiple unique facilities that are detailed below: 

  • The McMaster Nuclear Reactor was the first university-based research reactor in the British Commonwealth, and is one of the world’s largest suppliers of the medical radioisotope iodine-125. For more information, visit the McMaster Nuclear Reactor website (link: https://mnr.mcmaster.ca/)  

  • The McCallion Planetarium was one of the first planetariums in Ontario to offer family-friendly public shows. For more information, visit the McCallion Planetarium website (link: http://www.physics.mcmaster.ca/planetarium)  

  • McMaster's Biology Greenhouse is a teaching and research facility that is part of McMaster's Biology Department. The Greenhouse also has a permanent collection that is utilized for outreach to local schools and the public. McMaster Children & Youth University (MCYU) 

Let's Talk Science at McMaster runs an hour long post-lecture workshop with fun engaging activities that expand on the STEM content delivered by the McMaster Children and Youth Univerity lecturers. While Let's Talk Science's involvement with MCYU is postponed due to COVID-19, to find out more about this incredible intiative, visit the MCYU website.  

 

Let's Talk Cancer 

For 2021, Let's Talk Cancer at McMaster University was a two-day virtual symposium for secondary students Grades 11-12 hosted by Let’s Talk Science at McMaster and the Canadian Cancer Society’s Research Information Outreach Team (RIOT). The days included seminars from research professionals along with a variety of activities designed to engage students and foster an understanding of how STEM contributes to advancements in cancer research.  

 

StemCellTalks 

StemCellTalks is an outreach initiative established by the Stem Cell Network to facilitate knowledge transfer between academia and high school students (grades 11 and 12) pertaining to the science and practical ethics of stem cells. The initiative aims to improve the public’s understanding of basic stem cell science in combination with facilitating the development of ethical frameworks in which to address practical ethics, such to independently contemplate contemporary bioethics in a field characterized by rapid scientific advancement. In 2021, we hosted a virtual event with the Universities of Toronto and Guelph.  

 

Let's Talk Climate Action  

In 2022, we started a new series of symposia focused on actionable topics in Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change with direct support from the National Office.
