Dynamic Dinos Kindergarten, 1 1-2 hours Earth & Environmental Sciences, Biology Students explore the form and function of different dinosaur body parts using models and reconstructions. Students will also practice being paleontologists and “digging up fossils” out of modelling clay.
Feast for the Senses Kindergarten, 1 Less than 1 hour Biology Students participate in interactive, sensory activities that help them understand how animals use their senses to locate food.
Why Live Here? Kindergarten, 1 Less than 1 hour Biology, Earth & Environmental Sciences Students explore the needs of living things and work together to build a bird’s nest. Aligns with NL Grade 1 curriculum.
Matter Matters 1, 2 1-2 hours Chemistry, Physics Students explore the properties and interactions of solid and liquid materials and what it means when these types of matter have different densities. Aligns with NL Grade 2 curriculum.
Who Likes Wind? 1, 2 Less than 1 hour Engineering, Earth & Environmental Sciences Using everyday household items, students will construct a small paper pinwheel and discuss how wind is used to generate electricity. Aligns with NL Grade 2 curriculum.
Budding Biologists 1, 2, 3 1-2 hours Biology How are living things adapted for survival? Students will learn about the form and function of insects and birds. See Budding Marine for extensions. Aligns with NL Grade 2 curriculum.
Budding Marine Biologists 1, 2, 3 1-2 hours Biology Students will look at marine animals and their habitat to understand specific adaptations for communication, eating and continued survival. Aligns with NL Grade 2 curriculum.
Germs 1, 2, 3 Less than 1 hour Biology Students will learn about different kinds of germs, how they spread, and the importance of washing our hands.
Code & Go Mice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Information Technology/Computer Science, Engineering, Other Build a maze, code your mouse and find the cheese with fun coding adventures. Aligns with NL Grade 2 curriculum.
Chemistry Magic Show 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 1-2 hours Chemistry Witness some neat chemistry experiments and the science behind them. Watch us make elephant's toothpaste, science "explosions", and have students make homemade lava lamps. Extensions available for a large, assembly-style show.
Magnet Madness 2, 3 1-2 hours Physics Students experiment with magnets to discover their unique properties of attraction, repulsion, and polarity. Aligns with NL Grade 3 currciulum.
Playful Machines 2, 3, 4 1-2 hours Physics Students investigate simple machines by using levers, wheels and axles, and inclined planes to create a model playground. Aligns with NL Grade 3 curriculum..
Rube Goldberg Machines 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 1-2 hours Physics Students will be challenged to make a traditional Rube Goldberg-inspired device, something that accomplishes a very simple task in a very complicated way. Students will learn the concepts of force, motion and different types of energy. Aligns with NL Grade 5 curriculum (possible to be simplified for Grade 2 motion unit).
Bone Zone 3, 4, 5 1-2 hours Engineering, Biology Students discover how our skeletal system provides protection, support and movement through challenges, demonstrations, and role-playing activities. Students make a model hand and test it for strength and stability.
Structures 3, 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Engineering Fun, hands-on activities where students become engineers and create towers, bridges, and more, from everyday household supplies. Aligns with NL Grade 3 curriculum.
Trees for Tomorrow 3, 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Earth & Environmental Sciences, Biology Find your roots and grow resiliently as you step into a world of green! In this workshop, students will explore what makes up a healthy forest, and how tree and soil health is important for sustaining ecosystems. Students will consider how human actions affect forests, and how forests are important in combatting climate change. Discussions will focus on positive actionable steps students can take to protect plant and soil health in their communities. Aligns with NL Grade 3 curriculum.
Rocks & Minerals 4 1-2 hours Earth & Environmental Sciences Students will gain an understanding of how to identify rocks and minerals and how erosion and weathering plays a role in changing the landscape of the earth. Aligns with NL Grade 4 curriculum.
Science of Sound 4 1-2 hours Physics Students learn about sound being a form of energy, the difference between pitch and volume, and the parts of the human ear. Aligns with NL Grade 4 curriculum.
Constellations and Moon Phases 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Astronomy and Space Science Students learn about the importance of constellations and moon phases by building their own constellation viewer and moon phase slider.
Foamy Fliers 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Physics, Engineering Explore the physics of flight while designing your own foamy flyers and hoop flyers, building rotors, and having competitions to see whose design will fly the farthest.
Super Science Challenges 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Engineering, Mathematics Students work together to design, create and test a variety of items; teamwork is essential as students solve these engineering, science and math challenges.
Wonders of Weather 4, 5, 6 1-2 hours Biology, Earth & Environmental Sciences Students learn how the Sun, air and water create weather, and apply their knowledge of weather by constructing and testing a weather-measuring device. Aligns with NL Grade 5 curriculum.
Animals and Ecosystems 4, 5, 6, 7 1-2 hours Biology Explore the needs of living things and understand how animals survive in their own specific habitat. Aligns with NL Grade 4 curriculum (extensions available for Grade 7).
Crime Lab 4, 5, 6, 7 1-2 hours Chemistry, Biology Students hone their investigative skills by working in teams, collecting data, identifying patterns, and analyzing results to solve a mystery. Techniques include chromatography, fingerprinting and chemical analysis.
Bright Lights, Big Science 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 1-2 hours Physics Students investigate light and learn how light can be transmitted, reflected, refracted, or absorbed by materials in our environment. Aligns with NL Grade 4 curriculum (extensions available for Grade 8).
It’s Electrifying 5, 6 1-2 hours Physics Students gain a basic understanding of electricity by experimenting with electrical circuits, conductors, insulators, and electromagnets. Aligns with Grade 6 curriculum.
Body Systems 5, 6, 7, 8 1-2 hours Biology Students learn about the digestive, circulatory, and nervous systems; how exercise can impact your body and how different parts of your brain work to perform different tasks (e.g., movement, speech, vision). Aligns with NL Grade 5 curriculum (extensions available for Grade 8).
Fight or Flight: The Science of Stress 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 1-2 hours Biology, Health Science Learn how the body reacts to stressful situations by looking at the cardiovascular system, nervous system and endocrine system. Aligns with NL Grade 5 curriculum (extensions for Grade 8).
Entrepreneurial Science 6, 7, 8, 9 1-2 hours Mathematics, Engineering Students form a company and invent and evaluate a self-propelled object. Students use problem solving, planning, designing, testing and budgeting
Exploration Mars! 6, 7, 8, 9 1-2 hours Information Technology/Computer Science, Physics, Astronomy and Space Science, Earth & Environmental Sciences Students learn about and experience the challenges of Space Exploration using unmanned space probes (Orbiters, Landers, and Rovers), and use them to make discoveries about Mars and its ability to support life. Students then work alone to complete a lander building challenge. If students are allowed to work in groups, small groups of 2 or 3 makes this challenge more fun.
Air Forces - Science of Flight 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 1-2 hours Engineering, Physics Look at the history of flight, the basics of force, the four forces of flight, and the application of Newton’s Laws of Motion to flight. Aligns with NL Grade 6 curriculum.
Tectonics Rock! 7 1-2 hours Earth & Environmental Sciences Students examine how landforms are created through simulations and models and explore the results of plate movement.
Hydration Nation 7, 8, 9 1-2 hours Earth & Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology Test and analyze the physical and chemical properties of various water samples and make recommendations on which water source could be used for drinking. Aligns with NL Grade 8 curriculum.
Climate Change Expedition 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 1-2 hours Mathematics, Earth & Environmental Sciences Students will analyze historical, long-term trends in climate and explore environmental processes such as snow formation and albedo to gain an understanding of weather and climate in Northern Canada.
Dandy DNA 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 1-2 hours Chemistry, Biology Students learn about simple genetics and the structure of DNA. Includes an experiment of extracting DNA from strawberries (or bananas). Note: Please let us know of any food allergies in advance!
Bounce and Roll Preschool Less than 1 hour Physics, Mathematics Students explore energy, forces, friction, motion, and the properties of materials. Also includes songs/rhymes, a story book, tie-ins to math and literacy.
