About Us

Let’s Talk Science is committed to preparing youth in Canada for future careers and citizenship demands in a rapidly changing world.

Our world is rapidly changing and children and youth in Canada need to be curious, ask questions and be capable of challenging the status quo in order to succeed. In a world increasingly driven by innovation, the demand for people who can fill science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) - related jobs - will only continue to increase but the reality is that most students in Canada disengage from STEM courses before graduating high school.

Did you know?

  • More than half of all students still graduate high school without a senior level math and/or science credits needed for entry to university STEM studies.
  • Only 15% of students in Canada complete Grade 12 physics

Let's Talk Science is working to change this. We help youth build the skills they need for their - and Canada's - future success. Through STEM education we're helping youth learn to take risks, develop the persistence to find innovative solutions to real-world problems, and the competencies required to thrive in an ever-changing world.

With approximately 6.1 million children and youth, ages 3-17, in Canada, we cannot afford to leave any behind. And thanks to the generosity of our supporters across Canada we are having a positive impact.

Strategy Statement

Let’s Talk Science is a national charitable organization committed to preparing youth for evolving career and citizenship demands in a rapidly changing world. Our goal is to positively impact every child in Canada, from early years through secondary school. We do this primarily by providing programs and resources for educators that help them improve youth education and engagement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Our robust suite of programming is available in English and French at no cost to schools, early years centres, community organizations and parents/caregivers. We also support a diverse network of volunteers, the majority of which are postsecondary students who build career-readiness skills themselves by delivering and participating in Let’s Talk Science programming.

Let’s Talk Science connects the world of science, technology and innovation with education, bringing STEM to life in meaningful ways that build diversity and inclusion, and awareness of future opportunities. This helps to reduce barriers to STEM, and build interest and a sense of belonging. Let’s Talk Science coordinates a national platform of informed, innovative educational programming that is regionally responsive thanks to unique collaborations with academic and community partners, governments, industry, private donors and volunteers.

Today, Let’s Talk Science:

  • works with over 55 universities, colleges and research institutes and over 1,400 volunteers, who bring over 28,000 hours of science outreach to Canadian youth.
  • is accessed in more than 1,600 communities across Canada.
  • Has had more than 400,000 interactions with educators through our programs and digital resources.

Land Acknowledgement

Let’s Talk Science acknowledges the diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples within the land we now call Canada and values the historical and contemporary contributions of these peoples in each region where we work. We recognize the importance of Indigenous ways of knowing to our understanding of the natural world.

As a national charitable organization, we are committed to working toward meaningful reconciliation. Acknowledging the traditional territory on which we live and work is a small but important step that reminds us to learn more about the Indigenous peoples in these regions, to consider the history and ongoing colonialism on this land and to reflect on how each of us can contribute to reconciliation.
