Science is Beautiful is an annual art contest put on by multiple Let’s Talk Science Outreach sites across Canada. Aiming to highlight the integration of art within science and the science in art, students submit art pieces that connect to various science fields.

Eric Geenen, a student in Ontario, submitted a photography collection highlighting the biodiversity of life in Southern Ontario.

“This photo essay features species of plants, insects and fungi that are identified by their common and scientific name,” explains Eric. “The photos were taken in Conservation Areas and Provincial Parks in Southern Ontario and pay tribute to the beauty of the province’s biodiversity.”

The art submission also relayed the importance of the field of taxonomy in helping us to better understand species.

Congratulations to Eric and to all of the students who took part in Science is Beautiful!
