Long-time Let’s Talk Science Outreach coordinators and partners, Sandhya and Swapna Mylabathula have been honored as recipients of the 2021 Youth Media Alliance Award for best program, short-form content, ages 9+. Known as The STEAM Sisters, the award was presented for their STEAM Stars video in which they interview Astronaut Dr. Jenni Sidey-Gibbons.

Sandhya and Swapna started STEAM Sisters to share their passion for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) with the belief it’s for everyone. They encourage youth to discover the magic and excitement for themselves, in engaging and accessible ways. The STEAM Sisters engage youth in STEAM careers through hands-on activities and digital and broadcast media.

Sandhya is a PhD student at the University of Toronto, she is a CIHR fellow in public health policy. Swapna is an MD/PhD student at the University of Toronto and a McLaughlin Scholar. The pair have co-delivered a TEDx Talk, they have been recognized as two of the top 50 most influential Torontonians (GridTO Magazine) and as Urban Heroes (Toronto Community News) for their contributions.
