Winter in the Woods

Bear – Bears go into a light form of hibernation called a torpor for anywhere from 2 to 7 months.

Frog – Some frogs experience brumation during the winter, burrowing in riverbeds or bottoms of ponds.

Trees – In the winter, trees go into a dormant state, preserving energy and slowing internal processes.

Groundhog – Groundhogs go into true hibernation in underground burrows for the winter months.

Bats – Bat colonies enter a torpor hibernation state in humid caves or hollow trees.

Squirrels (Lexie and Lenny) -  While most ground squirrels hibernate, tree squirrels like us are active year-round!
