Join Lexie and Lenny to read “Marsha is Magnetic,” written by Beth Ferry and illustrated by Lorena Alvarez, and complete a hands-on science activity about magnets!

In this 45-minute activity, students will learn all about the scientific method and magnets. Students will use magnets to apply the scientific method to the science of attraction.

For this activity, students will need:

  • At least one magnet
  • Various small items, some that can attach to magnets (ex., Paper clips, screws, etc.) and others that can’t attach (ex., Paper, pen, coins, etc.)

Please don’t tell students what will attach to the magnet or not! They will discover by themselves by testing and thinking. Students can work in teams to attach magnets to various things in the classroom.

This activity is targeted at students in Grades 1 to 3. This activity could be suitable for younger students, but you will need to find items to test and magnets that are big enough and safe for your students.

Join us for our weekly STEM Storytime series on Tuesdays at 1 pm ET in English! If you cannot make it to a live session, feel free to register, and you will be sent a link to the recording afterwards.
