Join Lexie and Lenny to read Joyce Sidman’s book, “Swirl by Swirl: Spirals in Nature” and complete a hands-on science activity about patterns in the natural world!

In this 45-minute activity, students will learn all about patterns, structures and shapes in nature, and where to look for them. Students will use everyday household items to make a paper spiral decoration they can watch spin!

For this activity, students will need:

  • A sheet of paper, cardstock or paper plate OR spiral template
  • Scissors
  • A string or thread
  • A pencil or pen
  • Some markers or other decorating tools

This activity is targeted at students in early years to Grade 3.

Younger students may require more adult help cutting the spiral, and may find it helpful to use the template.

Join us for our weekly STEM Storytime series on Tuesdays at 1pm ET in English! If you cannot make it to a live session, feel free to register and you will be sent a link to the recording afterwards.

You can register for upcoming sessions or access on-demand STEM Storytime events on our STEM Storytime Page
