(London, ON) Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut David Saint-Jacques left over 100 Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteer coordinators feeling inspired about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) after speaking with them via videoconference during the 20th annual Let’s Talk Science Outreach Conference in London Ontario. A STEM advocate and mentor, David answered questions generated by the post-secondary students attending the conference for professional development.

“It is inspiring to see the engagement and enthusiasm of the volunteers that will help bring space to classrooms during my mission. Their work helps us to foster youth imagination and interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM),” said David Saint-Jacques, Canadian Space Agency astronaut.”

On December 20, 2018, David will fly to the International Space Station on his first mission. During his assignment, he will conduct a series of scientific experiments (Let’s Talk Science - Living Space), robotics tasks and test new technologies.

"We were excited to have David speak with our network of Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteer coordinators,” said Isabel Deslauriers, Let’s Talk Science Outreach manager. “We are always looking for opportunities to connect Canadian STEM talent with role models like David."

Let’s Talk Science Outreach started in 1993 with three sites in Ontario, and has grown to over 45 post secondary sites across Canada. Our coordinators lead their site volunteers and connect them with educators and youth to deliver a wide variety of meaningful hands-on STEM activities for children in classroom and community settings. As role models for young Canadians, Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers share their knowledge to inspire and engage kids, helping them to discover the relevance of science in their own lives.
