Celebrating National Volunteer Week

News | April 13, 2018 | Share on:

Volunteers are at the heart of what Let’s Talk Science does. From being role models for youth at outreach events, communicating advancements in STEM on CurioCity, supporting program development behind the scenes by preparing activities and helping out in the offices, and sitting on our Board of Directors; volunteers add immense value to the organization.

At Let’s Talk Science, we support our volunteers in their skill development and growth year round. During National Volunteer Week (April 15-21) we are sending a special thank you out to all of our volunteers for their dedication and passion!

What do our volunteers gain during their time with Let’s Talk Science? Here’s what a few of our volunteers have to say:

“It has given me the opportunity to foster my leadership abilities and public speaking; as well as shown me the difference I can make in a child’s life by doing something as simple as fun science experiments with them.” – Mollie Graham, Let’s Talk Science volunteer at UNB Saint John

“Being a Let’s Talk Science volunteer has given me to opportunity to learn effective strategies for children’s program implementation.” - Madison Hayton, Let’s Talk Science volunteer at Brock University

“Volunteering with Let’s Talk Science; particularly by organizing many of the major events that our site is associated with; helped me realize that I am capable of handling high demand responsibilities while maintaining my academic priorities.” – Ibrahim Rizvi, Let’s Talk Science volunteer at the University of Windsor

“I really learned how to think on my feet and be adaptable to unexpected situations.” - Roxanne Vandenbeek, Let’s Talk Science at McGill University

In the variety of roles that our volunteers take on, we work to support and develop our team so that they are gaining competence, confidence and connections for their volunteer work, but also for their careers and personal growth. Volunteering with Let’s Talk Science is more than the blue t-shirt and more than the hours – it continues on in the lasting effects on children, youth, educators, and volunteers.
