Coming to classrooms this January - Mission : Innovation

Let's Talk Science is pleased to announce the introduction of a new interdisciplinary project incorporating global competencies to empower students with the skills and mindsets they need to become true innovators. The development of this exciting project is a collaborative effort between the team of educational specialists at Let’s Talk Science and teacher advisors from across Canada.

“Let’s Talk Science has developed innovative educational programs for 30 years; our newest project focuses on the processes of innovation itself, to nurture a generation of problem solvers, critical thinkers, and creative minds,” said Bonnie Schmidt, President and Founder of Let’s Talk Science. “Mission : Innovation couples interdisciplinary learning with practical applications, empowering youth to explore and develop solutions to pressing global challenges such as energy sustainability, climate change, healthcare, housing, and poverty.”

Project Benefits

Designed and curriculum-aligned for grades 7-10, Mission : Innovation will immerse participants in human-centered design processes, in which student teams collaborate to dream, design, create, and put a working prototype to the test.

The culminating event for Mission : Innovation is an optional virtual showcase celebrating projects created by young innovators across Canada. Educators and students won't want to miss this showcase of the future that will be hosted by Let’s Talk Science and project funder Spin Master.

Spin Master was born from entrepreneurial spirit, and we’ve always stayed true to our DNA of innovation, exploration, invention and pushing boundaries. We firmly believe that diversity of thought fuels ideas and innovation and we’re passionate about inspiring future generations to invent, creative, innovate and solve.

Year One Challenge: Energize the World!

For the inaugural year, students are presented with a mission of critical importance: creating an innovative product or activity that not only educates but also makes learning about energy use, production, storage, and conservation a thrilling adventure!

The alignment of Let’s Talk Science STEM based educational expertise with Spin Master’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of creativity and fun encourages students in the

Mission : Innovation project to be more curious and creative in their scientific pursuits; and offers an opportunity for them to experience how different fields of study connect and overlap. This project goes beyond conventional education and play to engage youth in shaping a brighter, more innovative future.
