Game-changing research discoveries celebrated during Ontario Research Week, March 30 - April 2

Ontario-based research has changed Canada and the world. Thousands of Ontario researchers are working every day to change lives, yet oftentimes their breakthroughs remain unknown.

From March 30 to April 2, Ontario Research Week will celebrate Ontario university research while encouraging high school students, the general public, the university community, industry and government to learn about the accomplishments made by Ontario researchers.

At Let’s Talk Science, we’re getting involved in Ontario Research Week by showcasing all the great research our volunteers are conducting. Not only are Outreach volunteers discussing their research during classroom visits, but our CurioCity program will also post a Canadian research profile online every day of Research Week! Let’s Talk Science is also excited to be involved with the Ontario and Canada Research Chairs Symposium, taking place April 1-2 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This exciting event includes three free panel sessions:

  • The Research behind Mental Health for high school students, April 1st from 12:30pm – 2:30pm. During this session, researchers from universities across Ontario discuss how their research is impacting the lives of high school students and families. Topics include bullying and harassment, snacking and exercise, substance abuse, and eating disorders. These topics are helping shape CurioCity’s mental health theme which will be available for students and educators in 2016!
  • The Big Thinking Panel for university students and the general public, April 1st from 5pm – 9pm. Hosted by CTV personality Marci Ien, three researchers tell the story of game-changing Ontario discoveries.
  • Ontario and Canada Research Chairs Panel for university students, research chairs and government officials, April 2 from 8:30am – 1pm. This session features Research Chairs in panel discussions highlighting the value of Ontario university research in areas related to the economy, health, sustainable economies, borders, ethics and education.

The Ontario and Canada Research Chairs Symposium is an event organized by the Council of Ontario Universities’ Research Matters campaign. Partners assisting with the event include Let’s Talk Science, Mitacs, Partners in Research, Ontario Genomics Institute, Ontario Brain Institute, the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Canada Foundation for Innovation and SSHRC.
