High School Students across Canada head to campus for Let’s Talk Science Symposia
Let’s Talk Science Symposia connect high school students with post-secondary mentors during a one day, on-campus event highlighting the institution's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) specialty. Topic expertise ranges by Outreach site from stem cells to environmental impact, cancer to forensics. Students are given the opportunity to engage with post-secondary students and faculty while exploring career options, developing skills and gaining a glimpse into real-world problem-solving.

Let's Talk Nanoscience is hosted by Let's Talk Science and the Nanotechnology Group at the University of Alberta. The goal of this event is to introduce high school students to the world of nanoscience and nanotechnology by bringing them into contact with researchers in this field. We are also proud to showcase one of the University of Alberta's greatest local research strengths. The event will include the hands-on activities, engaging lectures, and tours as we have had in previous years. Free pizza lunch will be served for students.

Biomedical Symposium by Let’s Talk Science at University of Victoria (Grades 10 – 12)

Approximately 100 students will be invited to come to the University of Victoria to participate in interactive tours throughout 6 of the top neuroscience and psychology laboratories on campus and learn about the research that takes place. The students will also take part in a talk by Dr.Paul Zehr, a neuroscientist, a professor, a martial arts expert and a novelist.
Quantum Symposium by Let’s Talk Science at University of Victoria (Grades 11 -12)

Approximately 60 students in Grades 10 –12 will be invited to the University of Victoria to learn more about Quantum Mechanics, an area of Physics that is not part of the high school curriculum, but is a very important area of research. Students will rotate through laboratories and stations to learn more about the topic as well as interact with professors and students working at the University.
Let's Talk Bio-engineering by Let’s Talk Science at University of British Columbia (Grades 10-12)

Students in Grades 10-12, from across the lower mainland will be invited to a one day Symposium on the topic of Bio-engineering to be held on UBC campus. This full day event (8am-4pm) will include a keynote speaker, workshops and a Discussion/Q&A panel. Role models, including graduate students, trainees and professors with expertise in this area, will be recruited to present workshops and host a lunch with the students to allow them to ask questions about STEM fields. There will be tours of the engineering laboratories. Local biotech companies with bio-engineering-related foci will be invited to present their work at this event and demonstrate their impact in the field.
Environmental Symposium by Let’s Talk Science at University of Victoria (Grades 8 -12)

Approximately 100 students will join us in order to increase their awareness of environmental issues and demonstrate the role that sustainability can play in their daily life as well as their future careers. On the event day, students will take part in interactive, as well campus tours with students in order to see the different sustainability projects conducted at the University of Victoria.

Neuro Talks will be a fun and engaging day in which high school students will have the opportunity to listen to leading researchers, mental health professionals, and public health analysts. Students will also debate, participate in ethics discussions, and do hands-on activities.
