Let’s Talk Science to engage northern communities this winter

Let’s Talk Science is launching an exciting initiative to engage youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in five communities in Canada’s far north. A collaboration between Let’s Talk Science and Raytheon Canada, this project will promote youth confidence, engagement and the development of critical skills.

As a result, Let’s Talk Science staff and volunteers will be making five trips to communities in the Arctic and Labrador in the coming month and a half.

At Let’s Talk Science, we’re deeply committed to ensuring equitable access to our programs for all youth in Canada and have been collaborating with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities since 1994. We welcome the opportunity to offer meaningful programs that build youth confidence and interest in STEM learning in these communities.

The first of our five planned trips is happening this week to Inuvik, NWT. Let’s Talk Science staff member Isabel and Outreach coordinator from University of Calgary, Emily, are spending the week in Inuvik working with youth, educators, Raytheon employees and other community members.

The following week, Isabel will continue on to Fort Good Hope, NWT, to visit a school there. Let’s Talk Science will focus on program delivery to youth and educators within the communities, with a strong emphasis on community involvement and sustainability of impact over the intended five year term of the initiative.
