Let’s Talk Science Outreach welcomes First Nations University of Canada as 48th Outreach site

Let’s Talk Science Outreach welcomes the First Nations University of Canada as the 48 post-secondary site across Canada.

“First Nations University of Canada in Regina, Saskatchewan is excited to begin its science outreach partnership with Let’s Talk Science”, said Dr. Vincent Ziffle, faculty advisor for Let’s Talk Science Outreach at First Nations University Canada. “First Nations University of Canada is a leader in Indigenous education and we are grateful to have the opportunity to take part in Let’s Talk Science’s impactful STEM programming in Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories and beyond. We will maintain strong relationships with First Nations Elders to better understand Indigenous Science, experiential learning and important oral traditions.”

The partnership with First Nations University of Canada creates an opportunity to work with Indigenous students, communities and education centres throughout Saskatchewan combining Indigenous Knowledge and STEM for the benefit of primary and secondary students within Regina and in surrounding communities. Let’s Talk Science Outreach sites are encouraged to undertake outreach projects with Indigenous youth, with a focus on youth impact, community collaboration, training for volunteers, and sustainability of the relationship with the community.

In 2016-2017 school year Let’s Talk Science Outreach engaged over 286,000 youth and educators from coast to coast to coast in hands-on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) experiences. Outreach opportunities are made possible thanks to the support of companies like Bayer Canada who recently partnered with Let’s Talk Science through a $150,000 donation.
