National Conference back again for 2015

It’s that time of year again when we gather our Outreach volunteer coordinators for our annual training conference hosted in London, Ontario. The Let’s Talk Science Outreach team and staff is excited to launch the week of events and welcome approximately 80 volunteers who will join the conference in preparation for the school year ahead.

On the agenda this week, volunteers and coordinators representing more than 40 Let’s Talk Science Outreach sites at post-secondary institutions across Canada will be immersed in specialized science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education training. They’ll share best practices, learn about developing and delivering hands-on STEM activities, hone their communications and marketing skills in areas such as social media and take part in a special leadership training session with acclaimed science industry leader Dr. David Colcleugh.

Volunteers will also benefit from Outreach Site updates, presentations and taking part in a hands-on STEM Activity Fair, where they’ll get to show off their most popular science activity kits that they share with children, youth and community groups in their respective regions.

Each day, in keeping with the conference’s theme of “Time Travel,” a new era will be celebrated, featuring fun-filled elements and activities from the 70s, to Back to the Future, to prehistoric times. Be sure to follow along with the spirit and festivities with #SciThruTime on social media during the week!

Finally, the National Outreach Conference will also feature an awards banquet where our annual Let’s Talk Science National Volunteer Awards will be presented. The announcement of this year’s winners will be made on Saturday, June 6th, at the event, so stay tuned to our website news and social media channels for the big reveal!
