NOVA Chemicals announces a $500,000 investment in STEM education for Canadian children through Let’s Talk Science

Media Releases | September 13, 2018 | Share on:

(Calgary, AB) NOVA Chemicals today announced a $500,000 investment over five years in Let’s Talk Science as part of its commitment to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education for Canadian children. The investment will ensure that Canadian children have access to free, hands-on STEM-enrichment activities.

“In a rapidly changing, complex world it is critical that we ensure children and youth remain curious, ask questions and have the skills required to participate, thrive and lead,” says Bonnie Schmidt, President, Let’s Talk Science. “NOVA Chemicals recognizes that these experiences will ultimately build the talent skillset required for Canada’s future success. Together we will help children and youth build their digital skills and career awareness.”

As part of the announcement over 120 Grade 2 students from West Springs School enjoyed engaging chemistry demonstrations by Let’s Talk Science Outreach – University of Calgary. Students learned about chemical reactions as they watched elephant toothpaste and rockets fly.

“NOVA Chemicals is committed to STEM education and building interest during the critical early developmental years,” said Naushad Jamani, SVP at NOVA Chemicals. “This investment provides an opportunity for us to help Let’s Talk Science make a tangible impact in communities and classrooms across Canada, inspiring a future generation of leaders.”

NOVA Chemicals’ support will enable Let’s Talk Science to continue to broaden and deepen the impact of programs across Canada, increasing the number of children engaged in high-quality STEM-learning initiatives and professional learning opportunities for educators.
