Let's Talk Science Volunteer at McMaster University

"It's important to provide accessible opportunities for all children to engage in STEM"

Time volunteering with Let’s Talk Science: 1 year

Area of study:  Life sciences

Inspirational Moment: In “Human Body and Disease” in one of the schools, I assisted a disabled child in using a microscope. Despite initial challenges, the child not only picked up the concept quickly but also began answering most of my questions. This experience highlighted the importance of providing accessible opportunities for all children to engage in hands-on experiments and learning activities.

Favourite Let’s Talk Science volunteering activity: Fishing for climate change workshops

Why do you volunteer with Let’s Talk Science? I volunteer with Let’s Talk Science because I enjoy sharing my passion for science with students. It's fulfilling to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in the next generation and to show them how science is important in everyday life. Moreover, staying connected with the younger generation and understanding their perspective during their school years is always an enjoyable experience.

Fun fact: In one classroom session, gummies were given as rewards for answering questions, and now the students always ask for them whenever I visit the class.
