Time volunteering with Let’s Talk Science: 1 year

Area of study: Biology, Agriculture and Education

Inspirational Moment: During the Carleton University Annual Butterfly show, the students were all really excited to learn about the moths and butterflies on display and were really engaged despite the activity being virtual. It was really inspiring to see that their desire to learn was still in high gear during the pandemic.

Favourite Let’s Talk Science volunteering activity: I loved running the beaver dam activity. Seeing the students get creative and apply the principles of forces while building their dams was awesome!

Why do you volunteer with Let’s Talk Science? Simply put, it’s fun! I enjoy working with the students, coming up with creative ways to teach science and working with the other volunteers.

Fun fact: Some frog species fully freeze over the winter and become frog-scicles. In the spring they thaw and go back to hopping around and eating flies.
