Time volunteering with Let’s Talk Science: Since Fall 2022

Area of study: Bachelor of Science

Inspirational Moment: At the end of a session with kindergartens, I asked if they had fun and what their favourite activities were. Many of them said everything was their favourite and one of them responded that their favourite part was spending time together with everyone. It felt incredible because my contribution through volunteering with Let’s Talk Science must have made a large, positive impact on them at such a young age; including making science fun/exciting and bringing a sense of unity/belonging within science.

Favourite Let’s Talk Science volunteering activity: Feast for the Senses

Why do you volunteer with Let’s Talk Science? It is thrilling to see children light up with curiosity, excitement, and revelation. At the end of every session, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and accomplishment that keeps me wanting to do more! Let’s Talk Science provides me with many different opportunities to learn and grow. I have become more confident in myself and my capabilities, especially with young children, which I did not have much experience with before. On top of that, all the volunteers with Let’s Talk Science are warm and welcoming. It has been a pleasure getting to know new peers and collaborating with others to deliver these fun science activities.

Fun fact: I have wanted to be an orthodontist ever since elementary school when I had braces. As soon as they were taken off, I unexpectedly burst into uncontrollable tears of joy. I aspire to make that same impact on others.
