Simran Diocee

Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteer at the University of Manitoba

Simran has been volunteering with Let’s Talk Science for over 3 years and has had a lot of fun sharing her passion for science with others.

Time volunteering with Let’s Talk Science: I have a volunteered for a little over three years

Area of study: Completed a BSc in General Science

Inspirational Moment: I remember one evening after writing an exam I happened to sit down in a common area and just relax. As I did one of my friends with his volunteer group for mini CanU came by. As they passed, one of the kids ran up to me and told me how he remembered when I came to his class and gave a presentation on Matter Matters and how awesome it was. For me this was a great feeling because I knew I made an impression on this young student.

Favourite Let’s Talk Science volunteering activity: One of my favourite activities to do is the “Who Dunnit” Molecular Biology kit, mostly because I’ve done research in lab related to the kit and I like the CSI-ish feel of it.

Why do you volunteer with Let’s Talk Science? I like volunteering for Let’s Talk Science because for me science is a passion, and to be able to share what I love with others and help encourage their interest is wonderful.

Fun fact: I am responsible for starting the now annual ‘pie-ing’ of the lead coordinators at my location.
