Mariloue Daudier is an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisor for IVADO.

About me

I was born/grew up in: Montreal, Quebec

I now live in: Montreal, Quebec

I completed my training/education at:  Bachelor's degree in Social Work from McGill University and Master's degree in Management of Social Innovation from HEC Montreal

What I do at work

My days are never the same. Each year, I work on more than 30 small projects. In my work at IVADO, I have 3 main duties. My first is to attract and retain a diverse talent pool in digital intelligence. This is done through the creation of projects for such as the Indigenous Science FairParité science, the Salon international de la Femme Noire, etc. My second duty is to create more inclusive institutional practices. To do this, I consult with internal and external partners to develop customized solutions.  Generating new knowledge is my third duty. This is achieved through the creation of events and opportunities for scholarship and training. I do not use STEM knowledge in my role. I use my social work and social innovation management skills. These skills help me make decisions to coordinate socially oriented initiatives to build inclusion practices.

My career path is

I was not aware of the IDS counselling profession when I was in high school. Coming from an immigrant family with some members with disabilities, I have experienced first hand some of the barriers in society. I also learned what it means to be resilient. As a result, being involved in social causes has always been important to me. As a way to give back to society, I choose to do a Bachelor of Social Work. During my bachelor's degree, I found that I loved helping people. I also discovered that I had a leadership streak.  The path towards a master's degree in Social Innovation Management was perfect for me. It taught me to specialize in positions that would allow me to manage projects with an impact on society.

I am motivated by

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisor position makes me happy to get to work every morning! This is because I can collaborate with many people, I can develop projects and tap into my creative side. This position also lets me act as a trainer and facilitator of events that raise awareness of being more inclusive. I enjoy that my work has a positive impact in society.

How I affect peoples’ lives

My job facilitates accessibility for all to a field of the future. Through my work, we are achieving a better representation of the diversity that makes up our society in the digital intelligence sector. We are taking action to fight systemic discrimination. I help create awareness among professionals, students, researchers and teachers about systemic discrimination. I aid in the development of tools for a more inclusive and equitable digital intelligence sector.

Outside of work I

I do yoga for 15 minutes every morning to help me with my posture, focus and keep me calm in any situation. A morning yoga practice ensures a good day at work. I also do occasional running and dancing.

My advice to others

Get involved as much as possible, meet inspiring people and be curious.

I coordinate initiatives to attract and retain diverse talent in digital intelligence, to create inclusive institutional practices and to produce new knowledge.

When I was a student, I enjoyed:
  • History
  • Literature and Language Arts
  • Very involved in social activities. Elected to the student association, in the student newspaper, hip-hop dance, involved in social causes, I even coordinated a show as a fundraiser for Haiti
When I was a student, I would have described myself as someone who:
  • Brought People Together
  • Organized activities for my friends
  • Liked helping people
  • Was motivated by success
  • Liked being given free range to explore my ideas
  • Engaged in volunteer activities
  • Was really creative
