Multi-coloured fingerprint
Lexie and Lennie the squirrels

Join Lexie and Lenny to read Brian Rock's book, "The Deductive Detective," and complete a hands-on science activity about fingerprinting!

In this 45-minute activity, students will become detectives and learn about the different types of fingerprint patterns. Using everyday household items, they will take their own fingerprints and identify their patterns.

For this activity, students will need:

  • one piece of white paper or the fingerprint template
  • one pencil
  • tape
  • optional: magnifying glass

This activity is targeted at students in Grades 1 to 3. Students in their early years and kindergarten may still enjoy the book and have fun learning about deductive reasoning but will need more support to take their own fingerprints and analyze their patterns.

Join us for our weekly STEM Storytime series on Tuesdays at 1 pm ET in English! If you cannot make it to a live session, feel free to register, and you will be sent a link to the recording afterwards.

You can register for upcoming sessions or access on-demand STEM Storytime events on our STEM Storytime Page
