Kids make rainbow with building blocks

Join Lexie and Lenny to read Julia Perdomo’s book, “Rainbow Colors” and complete a hands-on science activity about rainbows and colors!

In this activity, students will learn all about how rainbows are formed and about the color spectrum. Students will use everyday household items to create their own colorful 3-D rainbow.

For this activity, students will need:

  • Construction paper in all 7 colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo/dark blue, violet)

OR

Blank paper and crayons/coloring material in all 7 colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo/dark blue, violet)

  • A piece of paper to use as a base
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Optional: cotton balls or other fluffy material for clouds

This activity is targeted at students in early years to kindergarten. Older students may still enjoy the activity and book, but may find parts too easy and may need some adjustment to stay engaged.
