I was born/grew up in: Calgary, Alberta

I now live in: Vancouver, British Columbia

I completed my training/education at:  I have a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Health Services/Allied Health/Health Sciences from the University of British Columbia

What I do at work

I work with Healthcare Providers to simplify the use of technology. I help deliver the insights, solutions, and outcomes that matter most to their employees and patients. My job revolves around people and developing relationships with people. These relationships can be internally at my organization or with a client. I seek to understand a client’s business problem and find a technical solution that can drive value for their business.

I bring teams together to solve problems. These teams can consist of architects, engineers, consultants, and developers. The goal is to create value for our clients. Everyone you ever interact with has strengths and can provide value to the team. The key is to understand those characteristics that allow everyone on a team to be successful. Much of my day is working in a team environment, supporting the team so that we can resolve whatever problem is in front of us.

My career path is

I always wanted to go into Healthcare. I just never expected it would be via technology! Throughout University, I studied science. I knew people working in data/analytics, networking and other technology related roles. I used these connections to get internships working in these areas. It was there that I realized how technology could be used to help people. I went from being a physio assistant, to being a technical recruiter/account manager. From there I went on to this position as a technical healthcare services executive.

My career path has not been linear or planned. All my opportunities have come from people that I've met and connections I've made. I also took chances to learn something new and made mistakes along the way. A big part of my career has been listening to what other people have said were my strengths and following opportunities they recommended. I have encountered many challenges. I am motivated by

Helping people gets me excited at work! I love meeting new people. Connecting people, who will find value in meeting one another, and learning something new every day, get me excited! Knowing that the solutions we provide help improve healthcare delivery is what I enjoy most about my job. Being able to make an impact on patient care through technology is a great feeling. Technology has enabled so much through this past year with COVID. Solutions, such as telehealth and virtual care, are changing how healthcare is delivered. Technology is expanding our capacity and capability! It is a very exciting place to be. I love that I am able to learn something new every day because things are constantly changing.

How I affect peoples’ lives

I am passionate about people and helping people. For healthcare providers, I develop solutions that allow people to provide the best possible care for patients. In my role, the work we do improves the quality of care. It also provides technology and solutions that help physicians save lives.

Outside of work I

I love sports! I play beach volleyball, softball, soccer, tennis, golf and ski in the winter. Basically any sport - sign me up! I volunteer for SheLeadsTech Vancouver as their Marketing and Social Media Director. This is an incredible group to meet women in technology in Vancouver and Western Canada.

My advice to others

Life is a marathon, not a sprint! If you think you are interested in something, try it out. Sometimes it's just as important to learn about what you don't want to do and the only way to find that out is to try.
