About me
I was born/grew up in: Weston, ON
I now live in: Cranbrook, BC
I completed my training/education at: I have a BA in Economics and Applied Math from the University of Calgary.
What I do at work
I am responsible for the sales of Eos Positioning Systems in Canada. I look at trends in the navigation and positioning industry. I seek out new markets and explore new product ideas each day. I look for areas where our products can be used to make others more productive and more efficient. Working with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) relies on math and science to understand how the system can be applied. You are always challenged to think of better solutions. I work with everyone in the organization. Being in Sales means that I work with every corner of our organization, from Marketing to Production.
My career path is
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) was only a concept when I was in school. I have no formal education or training in GIS or GPS. I have read lots and taken many online training sessions. I have applied my BA to this by using all the transferable skills. Failures are a daily experience in this role. You have to understand and accept that this is normal and to look for any success. Even if you fail, there is always something positive to take from that.
I am motivated by
A job in sales is right for me because I don’t get challenged by technical items. I find solving issues and talking about our products more challenging. Every day is a new challenge or issue. No two days are the same. I am a social person and this job lets me meet new people all the time. I travel and visit clients. I see how our hardware is used and that is very interesting to me.
How I affect peoples’ lives
Global Information Systems (GIS) is more relevant in the decision making of Municipalities, Environmental organizations and many others. Everyone I talk to and deal with will use our hardware to make crucial decisions tomorrow.
Outside of work I
I move away from the computer and the phone. I spend a lot of time at the golf course playing and practicing. I volunteer for the British Columbia Golf Association as well.
