About me
I was born/grew up in:Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
I now live in:Milton, Ontario Canada
I completed my training/education at:University of Toronto
What I do at work
I do whatever is needed to build my company. Product development, marketing, sales, support, training, market research, etc.
What I love about being an entrepreneur is it isn't predictable. In any given week my activities can range from product development, doing product demos and presentations, speaking to students, working on website marketing, learning new skills, meeting new people, booking new meetings, solving customer problems. The most difficult part of my job is each day I need to look at where Acadiate is and decide where Acadiate needs work to be done the most.
My STEM background gives me the outlook that problems are simply opportunities to create solutions and I've been able to take this point of view to be successful in non-STEM related areas of Acadiate like sales and marketing.
Interactions I have with colleagues are around product and business development to ensure they are aligned with Acadiate's vision.
My career path is
I went to University of Toronto for my undergrad in business and technology. I also did a digital communications certificate at Sheridan College. When I graduated, I interned and then worked at a recruitment start up where I leaned the ins and outs of recruitment. I then founded Acadiate in 2011 to help students improve their career development.
I am motivated by
The challenge of solving complex problems is what keeps me motivated. I also really like seeing that we can build things and those things can make huge differences in the lives of others.
I love constant change, being an entrepreneur gives me the opportunity to have a career where no two days are exactly alike.
How I affect people’s lives
Acadiate helps students get more out of their education by helping them better sell their education so they have a better chance at securing the employment they went to school for. We also help students connect with relevant mentors who can help provide them with relevant career advice.
Outside of work I
I like spending time with my family (wife, son, and daughter), reading, playing and watching hockey, and I also have a couple TV shows I like to keep up with.
My advice to others
Get started. Take risks. Don't be afraid to make mistakes/fail. Learn everyday. Persevere.
