Learn About My Career
I review and analyze medical and insurance data to make sure it is accurate.
I was born/grew up in: Guangzhou, China
I now live in: Toronto, Ontario
I completed my training/education at: Health Administration Certificate at Seneca College, Diploma of Health Information Management at George Brown College B.A in Environmental Studies & Public Policy at the University of Toronto, Master of Health Informatics at the University of Toronto (in progress)
I work for Wisedocs.ai. Our company uses artificial intelligence to enable insurance companies, legal firms, and healthcare providers to process claims with more speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
The key activities I do in my current job as a medical documentation specialist is to review and analyze medical and insurance data. I make sure all information is complete and accurate. My education in medical terminology and documentation helped me understand the content of the documents. This helps me to ensure we have high quality data.
This was not something I expected to do when I was in high school. I started exploring my interests in healthcare and potential career path after high school by doing a health admin certificate. I worked as a medical secretary in a clinic. In this job I had the opportunity to know/work with different people and careers in the healthcare sector. This included lab technicians, specialists, family physicians, and public health professionals. I spent a lot of time managing health records when I worked there. Because of this, I developed a strong interest in electronic health records. I later went to GBC for Health information management and completed my internship in hospital as data analyst. I was exposed to different systems in the hospital. I learned a lot about how administrative information and clinical data is processed and turned into useful knowledge for decision makers.
I really like how technology is being used to make people’s lives better. I am also really interested in different fields like healthcare and technology. My current job is fulfilling because I can become an expert in health data management. Also, I have different opportunities to learn how current technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence can be applied in the healthcare sector. I really enjoy sharing my work experience and questions I encounter with the development team. They make the product better not just for the client but also for us.
My work involves managing medical and insurance documents. This helps make the claim process for patients and companies more efficient. My work helps save lots of time for physicians and insurance companies. This helps people get back to their normal life quicker.
I enjoy badminton and dragon boat racing. I love cats so I also volunteer at Pet Smart. I enjoy joining different areas, like business, healthcare, and climate.
Try to explore different things outside of school. Do not set limits to yourself. Have a plan B in case your first plan does not work out for you.
