NOTE: Please check with the educator to make sure that the educator is okay with splitting the class by gender before this activity.
What To Do
1.Ask students if they think girls or boys have longer name.
2.Draw a table chart to collect data on how many letters are in student's names
Number of letters | Male | Female |
3. In different colours, represent the data on a graph. Each student should have a personal graph.
4. Start students off with the first bar, then get students to continue on their own or in their groups.
5. As a class, check answers find the central tendency (mean, median and mode).
6. Conclude with asking how students if they can use this data to predict the data of a different classroom.
Discovery
Collecting data and finding central tendency can allow for predictions of other groups/populations to gather data.
