Learn About My Career
Scot Ryan is a Financial Advisor for Ryan Financial, located in Newfoundland.
I was born/grew up in: Southern Hr., NL
I now live in: St. Philip’s, NL
I completed my training/education at: College of the North Atlantic. I completed a Business Management diploma specializing in Accounting.
I analyze the risk-reward trade off of mutual funds to decide which funds are best for my clients. I return phone calls and emails from my clients to answer their questions. I complete the appropriate applications and forms with my clients and then forward them to the appropriate companies for processing. I decide how much money people need to invest and what returns they need to achieve to reach their goals. To do this I have to take a large number of factors are taken into consideration to determine which products will best fit my clients need. Two main factors I have to consider are their risk tolerance and how long they plan to keep their money invested. So I have to meet with my clients on a regular basis to see if their circumstances have changed. If there are changes, we will adjust their investments to address these changes.
I completed a Business Management diploma where I specialized in Accounting. I spent four years working as an accountant. But I always wanted to be my own boss. I always enjoyed taking on new challenges so I decided to start my own business. I’ve been a Financial Advisor since 2004. Starting out, the early years were difficult as I had to build a client base. That involved a lot of phone calls, meetings, and personal contacts. It all worked out though as I now have a successful business.
I feel satisfied when a client thanks me for helping them reach their goals. I always enjoyed math and economics and helping others. The financial products that I have to offer continue to change and evolve as the market changes. I enjoy reviewing and learning about the new products that are available. I get to meet a lot of different people from all walks of life. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about them.
I ensure my clients have appropriate coverages of life, disability, medical & dental, critical illness and long term care insurance. I work with my clients to save for their future. The better returns I get for my clients the sooner they can retire with more money.
I enjoy watching and playing hockey. I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids. We enjoy traveling. I volunteer with the juvenile diabetes research foundation.
Dig in your heels and get going. This is a very rewarding career.
