This strategy supports students in synthesizing their learning of a main idea or principle.

Why use it?

  • To support students' ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources.
  • To encourage flexible thinking and support students’ ability to use different ways to represent their understanding.
  • To use creativity as a way to engage students who are visually or artistically oriented.

How do I use it?

  • In small groups, have learners brainstorm keywords that describe the topic.
  • Have students use these words to create and record a catchy “bumper sticker” on a sentence strip that can be displayed on the wall.
  • Encourage the use of pictures and symbols as well as text to convey and support their understanding of the topic.

Variations

  • Students can brainstorm together but each creates their own individual bumper sticker.
  • Could be completed digitally.
